MGM Springfield is set to have its official opening on the 24th of August. When the new $960 million casino resort opens, law enforcement is going to be on high alert. The new casino will see a heavy police presence for the first week of its operation. Local officials in Springfield gave some detailed plans with regards to security last week, assuring potential visitors that everything will go smoothly.

MGM Springfield to open with increased security

MGM Springfield will open within the next few days. When the casino opens, there will be increased security and police for the opening week.

MGM Springfield Prepares for Opening

The casino resort will have 125 000 square feet of gambling space. MGM has said there will be 2550 slots and 120 gaming tables. In addition to this, the venue will have a 250-room hotel, with five different places to eat. Other highlights include the entertainment venue that can see 8000 people, a bowling alley, and a Spa.

The area around MGM Springfield will typically have 40 police officers. However, there will be an additional 50 during the opening week. In addition to this, a tactical response team and two emergency operation centres will be on standby. The city will also use some garbage trucks to block off certain roads, which will have very high pedestrian traffic.

MGM Springfield Should Benefit Home Town

Less than one year ago, the October shooting happened in Las Vegas. It is clear that this horrific event is still fresh on everyone’s mind. Springfield clearly wants to be prepared for the worst-case scenario and ensure nothing like that happens. The city of Springfield will spend around $13 million per year on security in the area around the new resort.

The MGM Springfield is expected to pay around $26 million annually to the city. In addition to this, it has agreed to pay several surrounding communities between $75 000 and $375 000 each year. The money paid to Springfield will be used to fund the police and fire departments, along with the city’s public schools.
