The 4th of July is the day our nation celebrates Independence Day, but it is also a time of year when many companies expect to do quite well. Las Vegas is no different, with many casinos and other businesses in Sin City hoping for a good financial performance. With Independence Day falling on a Tuesday in 2017, many businesses and casinos are concerned that the holiday may not be as prosperous as they’d like. The concern is that many people would just visit Las Vegas on the 4th of July and not come over the weekend.
Independence Day Forecasts Look Good
It is estimated that over 320 000 people visited Las Vegas over the course of Independence Day weekend, which was classified as the Friday before the 4th of July, until the Wednesday after. It is believed that hotel occupancy within the city was over 95% and visitor spending is expected to top $217 million.
Most of the people, two-thirds in fact, who travelled to Las Vegas for Independence Day are believed to have come by car. Due to the fact that there aren’t many conventions taking place around the 4th of July, McCarran Airport tends to be rather quiet.
It is also worth noting that Independence Day celebrations in the city were pretty safe and there were no major incidents involving terrorism of security problems.
Independence Day 2016 May Have Been Stronger
While it is expected that Independence Day celebrations will still be good for the city, many fear that 2017 will fail to live up to 2016. July 2016 was a great month for Las Vegas, showing a 17% increase in revenue compared to the previous year. This was due to the fact that July 2016 saw five full weekends in the month, and Independence Day was on Monday, creating a long weekend for visitors.
With the 4th of July falling on a Tuesday in 2017, many worry it would have caused fewer visitors. Even though there may land up being fewer Independence Day visitors, the rest of the month is still predicted to be strong for Las Vegas.
