The Alabama tornado crisis, which saw over a dozen tornadoes rip through the state, claimed the lives of 23 people across the state. Following the disaster, the Wind Creek Hospitality casino group – which owns casinos in Alabama, Nevada, Florida and Pennsylvania – announced that they will be paying for the funerals of the victims of the disaster. In total, the gaming operator has donated US$184 000 to the cause thus far.

The casino allegedly contacted the Lee County coroner’s office and stated their intention to help out with the proceedings. Their initial pledge was USD$50 000. However, the group later called the coroner’s office back. They then suggested that the coroner give them a suitable figure to cover all costs.

Tornado Wreaks Havoc Through Southern States

On March 3, a swarm of about 38 tornadoes began making their way through states in the Deep South, including Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, and Florida. The event has seen much damage done to the parts of each of these states.

Although this event seems somewhat out of the ordinary, there have been several instances in which a storm of tornadoes ripped through a southern state. One such recent occasion was in 2011, where over 360 tornadoes spun through Alabama.

Not All Casino Tornado Donations Accepted

This is not the first donation the Wind Creek Hospitality casino has made to aid the tornado relief effort. Earlier this year, the group made a US$25 000 donation to a Baptist church in Alabama. The church politely declined the money based off the idea that it came from a casino. However, they still hoped that the cash when into helping the relief effort in some way.
